The Gallery of Ser Aedh: The Mausoleam (cont.)

As you turn the corner, you find yourself in a small room lit by a single hooded lantern atop a table positioned against the far wall.  Hunched over it is a crooked man, working carefully on a dead body.
The Autopsy

The man looks over his shoulder towards you, his hooked-nosed face a silhouette against the light of the lantern.  Against the wall leans a gnarled walking crutch.  Around the table are smaller desks and shelves lined with medical tools and instruments.

To your right you see a small stair leading up to a heavy wooden door.

"Who are ye to trespass on the grounds of the Great Aedh?  Surely, ye be not grave robbers!  NEE HEE HEE!"  he croaks.

I hear this strange voice speaking to me from inside the room, so I turn back down the hall to retrieve my group. Informing them of my findings, "We need to get through that door," I say to my companions.

    [OOC]

Does the hall continue down, or is there only the autopsy down the hall?

"Perhaps we should have a chat with this individual-- if he is no wrong-doer then he has nothing to fear." Amberdin says confidently to Lagormeth. Amberdin then carefully takes the black cloth and wraps the evil looking blade in it, then stuffs it in his pack. "Let us go see to our door keeper then, shall we?"

    [Tech]
Amberdin wraps the dark blade in the black cloth of the dead shadowstaff without touching the metal and finds a place to store it upon his back. He then follows whomever decides to lead into the hallway to confront the strange man.

I remove my cowl as I make my way back down the narrow passage, leading my comrades to this mysterious man. Leading up to the autopsy, I notice the bit of stone that gave away my presence. I curse the cobble as I pass. Arriving at the room, I knock on the entryway leading into the room, "Good evening, sir." I say to the man.

    1. The man turns toward you, away from the table.

'Good evenin' yeself! What in the name of the First are ye doin here?!'

      [OOC]

SOMEBODY DO SOMETHING. I don't want to have to give you all another 'nudge.'

Following Lagormeth into the corridor, Amberdin spies the man that had been mentioned. He responds to the man's latest query, "We are here on behalf of the people of Thrall and for the sake of those we hold dear. We are investigating the disappearance of the Regent as well several disturbing rumors. This place, Ser Aedh’s manor, seems to be in a state in which it should never be. Can you explain the obvious stain of evil that now holds this place, sir mortician?”

    [Tech]
Amberdin follows Lagormeth into the hallway and slowly steps toward the strange man as he questions him.

I sheath my short sword and pull my bow. I stand to the side of Amberdin and knock an arrow. Aiming at his knee, I say to the man, "Answer the question. We don't have time for foolishness." I smirk as I wait for his reply.

    [Tech]

If the man does not cooperate immediately, he will get an arrow to the knee. If the first shot misses, I will shoot at the other knee.

Having taken her time in the mausoleum, Jenisys strides up the hallway to join her companions. As she enters the door way, she looks on the scene of Lagormeth aiming her bow at a man standing near a dead body. The sounds she had heard while descending the hallway did not seem hostile. "Friend, has this man threatened our safety?" she speaks to Lagormeth. To her core, Jenisys believes it is unacceptable to harm unarmed innocent people.

    [Tech]

Jenisys enters the room and discusses Lagormeth's actions with her.

"Don't worry, dear Jenisys. I may not have to do anything, presuming our friend, here, cooperates." I hold my aim.

      [OOC]

Is there "Take Aim" in 1st edition?

  7. 'What manner o' riff raff be ye? So rash as to trespass in the home o' the Great Aedh!'

Hands raised, he glances at Jenysis and glares back into the eyes of the assassin.

    'I thank ye kindly, m'lady.

'And what is this, bearin' arms against an old man? If it were so terribly important ta find the Aedh, why didn't ye just knock on the front door?'

    A glint in his eye.

'I warn ye, the Great Aedh is none to be trifled with.'

A caged crow croaks softly upon the shelf.

"Lagormeth, please lower your bow. He clearly does not mean us any harm. I know things are difficult right now and our loved ones need us, but we are not common thugs. Let us follow our own codes-- I know assassins abide by rules too." Amberdin turns to the man, eyeballing the crow as he does. "Sir, if this place were as great as it was proposed to be then how can you explain the evil that is about? How can you explain the bodies we have seen since arriving? Until the Regent himself explains to us the things we have witnessed and showed us that he is indeed safe and sound, we will be going nowhere."

    [Tech]
    Amberdin speaks.

    1. 'Oh, the bodies? Just precautions against what goes on outside the grounds. In case you haven't noticed, strange happenings are afoot, eh? Why, I'm just examinin' this poor bloke.'

He motions to the body. It is largely unidentifiable, save for a familiar looking blue cloak in tatters around it. Ricben's.

'Custodians found 'im and were lookin' to dispose of 'im in their usual superstitious fashion. Its my job to prep the dead, after all, and stranger or no I was givin' 'im what all dead deserve.

'Ser Aedh knew o' these 'appenings and came promptly home to sort out business. Can't run a city wif your home in tatters, after all.'

      The crow squawks.

'I know, Master, I know. He hates the dead to linger in here for too long. Let me alone to finish my business and I'll do my best to chat wif ya later. The Aedh is in the Gallery, tendin' to business. He might chat wif ye if he can find the time.'

I lower my bow for the information given was quite useful. "Thank you for your assistance, good sir," I say to the older gentleman, "it was quite wise. Please, take special care of this one. He was one of our own and deserved more than what he got. What would it take for him to receive a proper burial?" I return the arrow to the quiver and place my hand on my coin pouch.

      [Tech]
I ask the man to give Ricben a proper burial and wait for his reply.

    3. 'One of yer own, eh? I'll do what I can for the poor bloke, but he's in quite a mess. He's not o' the Aedh's house so he won't have a plot. Cremation, in the tradition o' the First, will have to do if we can't find a place.

'Even if you are trespassing, however unwitting, we are quite serious about the dead here.

'Now please, let me be. There's still much to be done on this one, lest the maggots and rot claim 'im.'

"Very well. Let us leave you to your work. Thank you." I say to the man as I walk toward the wooden door, motioning to my comrades.

      [OOC]

As I walk toward the door, what do I see? Is there anything on the door, or near the door on either side or above?

    5. The door is wholly unremarkable. A heavy wooden frame is what you find, along with more shelves to the left of the door filled with metal tools, trinkets, and vials. To the right is a cobblestone wall.

The door is reinforced with iron, with a large pull ring in the middle of the left side.

I proceed to pull the handle, entering the next room!

    7. You strain to open the door. It would seem it is as heavy and as solid as it initially appeared.

Albeit with some difficulty, the door swings open with a hollow creak, revealing an ascending staircase.

      [OOC]

The door does not lead directly into a room. Do you wish to revise your actions?

I pull the cloak atop my head and proceed up the staircase, leading my company to whatever lies ahead.
